To file your tax returns as encouraged in the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) poster, follow these steps through the eCitizen platform as indicated:
How to File KRA Returns via eCitizen (ecitizen.kra.go.ke)
Step 1: Log in
- Go to: https://ecitizen.kra.go.ke
- Log in using your eCitizen credentials (ID Number and password).
If you haven’t registered, click on Create Account and follow the prompts.
Step 2: Access iTax Services
- After logging in, under “My Services”, click on KRA Services.
- You’ll be redirected to a linked iTax portal account.
Step 3: File Returns
- On the iTax dashboard, click on “Returns” > “File Returns”.
- Choose your taxpayer type:
- Resident Individual (most common for salaried or self-employed individuals).
- Non-Resident, Company, etc.
Step 4: Select Return Type
- For employed persons:
- Select Income Tax - Resident Individual.
- For Nil returns (no income during the year):
- Select Income Tax - Resident Individual (Nil Return).
Step 5: Fill and Submit
- Select the Return Period (usually 1st Jan to 31st Dec of the previous year).
- Upload your filled return (Excel .zip file) if required, or file online.
- Click Submit and Download Acknowledgment Receipt.
Deadline:
File and pay your taxes by 30th June 2025.
