The “Warning: Camera failed” on Samsung Ultra phones is annoying—you’re not alone
Good news: in most cases it’s fixable without a service center.
Let’s go step by step, from quick wins → deeper fixes.
Quick checks (do these first)
Sounds basic, but they work surprisingly often:
- Restart the phone

- Close other apps using the camera (WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.)
- Make sure no app is using camera in background
- Check if the lens is clean (dust/moisture can trigger errors)
Clear Camera app cache & data
This fixes corrupted camera files.
Steps:
Settings→Apps- Tap Camera
Storage- Tap Clear cache
- Tap Clear data
- Restart phone
Don’t worry—this won’t delete your photos.
Force stop + reset permissions
Sometimes permissions glitch after updates.
-
Settings→Apps→ Camera -
Tap Force stop
-
Go to Permissions
-
Allow:
- Camera
- Storage / Media
- Microphone
-
Reopen Camera app
Safe Mode test (VERY important)
This tells us if a third-party app is the culprit.
How:
- Hold Power button
- Long-press Power off
- Tap Safe Mode
Now open the camera.
Results:
Works in Safe Mode → A recently installed app is causing the problem
(camera apps, filters, flashlight apps, social media mods)
Still fails → likely system or hardware issue
Restart to exit Safe Mode.
Update or roll back software
Samsung Ultra models sometimes get camera bugs after updates.
Settings→Software update- Install any pending updates
If the problem started right after an update, wait for a patch or:
- Report via Samsung Members app
Wipe cache partition (advanced but safe)
Fixes system-level glitches.
Steps:
- Power off
- Connect phone to PC or charger
- Hold Volume Up + Power
- Release when Samsung logo appears
- Select Wipe cache partition
- Reboot system
(No data loss)
Hardware signs (
service required)
If ANY of these are true, it’s probably hardware:
-
Camera fails in all apps
-
Phone recently:
- Fell
- Got wet
- Overheated
-
Front or rear camera shows black screen
-
Error appears immediately after opening camera
Common hardware faults:
- Camera module failure
- Loose camera connector
- Motherboard camera IC (rare but expensive)
Last resort
- Backup data
- Factory reset
- If still failing → Samsung service center
